Since 1971, City of Refuge has been actively involved in benevolent outreach to the Last, Lost and Least of inner-city Atlanta.

We understand the need for programs that span multiple areas of need – from food, clothing, and shelter, to job training, placement, housing, life skills, and transportation.

Our goal is to provide the best possible opportunities for success to those who are willing to work hard to change their lives.

Giving Opportunity

These are tough times we live in. The economy is suffering, jobs are being lost, gas is too high, and the future looks like it might be worse than the present. As a result of the tough times in our nation, we have experienced some tough times here at COR. Many of our donors have had to make the decision to discontinue their support of our ministry as they work to make ends meet in their own household. The last 3 months we have witnessed a decrease in individual giving totaling nearly 40% of our projected income.

As a result of this decrease we have worked hard to trim all areas of ministry, run as lean as is feasible, and become more and more diligent in our stewardship of what the Father blesses us with. It is ironic that tough times increase the demand on our services while, at the same time, decreasing the amount of resource we have to meet the demand.

Here is the good part of what is happening---On September 30th, we had a generous donor establish a matching grant of $150,000.00 to benefit the ministries of City of Refuge. For every dollar we are able to raise the donor will match those gifts up to a total of $150,000.00. That means every dollar you choose to give now will automatically double and we will receive two dollars. If we are able to raise $150,000.00 we will receive a total of $300,000.00. I assure you that the timing of this matching grant is providential and I am extremely humbled God has chosen to reveal His generosity to us in this way.

Please prayerfully consider a financial gift to City of Refuge right now. Time is of the essence as we work to raise the matching funds. If you elect to send a gift, please do so at your earliest convenience to assist us in the present shortfall. Also, please share information about City of Refuge with your friends and ask them to consider partnering as well.

Many of you have been very generous with your time, talent and treasure--thank you. This is an unusual request from City of Refuge and not the type you will receive often. Your friendship is important and we do not want to take your generosity for granted.

Eden Village

For some time now we have been talking about Eden Village, our forthcoming transitional living center for women and children. Well, the opening of Eden Village is right around the corner and we could not be more excited. In partnership the the City of Atlanta and Fulton County Department of Human Services, CITY OF REFUGE will host the grand opening on December 4 in the brand new center.

Eden Village will provide forty-four individual transitional housing units, which will accommodate up to 132 individuals (single women and/or mothers with children). While residing at the Village, clients will receive social services, case management, physical and mental health assessments and treatment, job training, job placement, and free child care. After the ninety day transitional period, they will move into their own apartments/homes and living expenses will be paid for them on a pro-rated basis for an additional ninety days.

What a great time of year to initiate such a tremendous Justice program! And you can be part of it! We still need donations of cash or goods to outfit each living unit. $1000 will provide all bedding, bath items, lamps, 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed set, and 1 dresser. If you cannot sponsor a complete unit, please consider donation of any of the items listed above (new items only please!).

If you would like to donate, please contact Cathryn.
